Tiger Gait Transition
(Amble and Rotary-Gallop)

By using reference videos of the tiger in motion as a guide, I created charts for the footfall patterns for amble and rotary-gallop of tiger. The gray color marks one cycle of motion.

  • Reference video for amble (0:36–0:45):

  • Foot fall pattern chart for amble:

  • Reference video for rotary-gallop (1:12–1:21):

  • Foot fall pattern chart for rotary-gallop:

For the gait charts, I used trigonometric functions to generate the footfall patterns for amble and rotary-gallop by representing the tiger’s four feet by simple geometries. The procedural gait generator has a controller that manages the gait speed, which cause an increase from slow to fast then back down to slow again. To make the transition smooth as possible, I used linear interpolation between the two gaits.
